Why Is My Freezer Not Freezing

Here are some of the common causes to consider.
Evaporator Fan
The evaporator fan circulates air over the evaporator coils and through the freezer. If it is not working, your freezer will not cool. If this is the problem, the part will require replacement.
Compressor
That humming noise coming from your freezer is normal. It means that the compressor is functioning. If you don’t hear this noise and your food is starting to thaw out, the compressor could be to blame. Try unplugging the freezer and plugging it back in. If this does not work, the part may require replacement.
Excess Frost
The frost heater turns on several times in the day. This ensures that excess frost is melted away. If this heater does not turn on, frost can build up on the evaporator coils. Replacing the part should completely resolve the issue.
Temperature Control Thermostat
This part directs voltage to the evaporator fan motor, compressor and condenser fan motor. If it is not working, the system will not receive power and your freezer will not cool.
No Air Circulation
Air must circulate for any freezer to work properly. Check the evaporator fan for anything that could be blocking air flow. If there is any food near the fan, move it out of the way to allow for better air circulation.
Overfilling Your Freezer
In order to cool the entire freezer effectively, air must be able to move freely everywhere. If you have your freezer packed to the limit, it can prevent air flow and you will notice that your freezer will not be as cold as it should be. Pack carefully and do not overfill your freezer.
Dirty Coils
Coils that are covered in dirt and dust restrict air flow and this makes the appliance less efficient. Unplug your freezer from time to time and clean the coils located on the back.
Broken Seals
If a seal or gasket is broken, air will escape. The more cold air escapes, the more the temperature inside the freezer will rise. Replace the seals as soon as you notice them breaking.
